Google Launches New Feature For Local Business Owners
If you’re a SMB, more than likely you’ve heard of Google Business Listings. Their business listings just like every other technology has evolved over the years; in not only the features and offerings but also the name. You may recall “local listings”, “business listings”, “Google Local”, Google Places”, “Google Plus Local”. Google has tried to make editing your business information as easy as possible. With the introduction of Google Plus, confusion ensued with mass frustration for SEO companies and business owners alike on where they should edit their content, Google Plus or Google Places.
Now Google has launched Google My Business, the idea is to make it easier than ever to update your business information on Google. Their goal is to make it easy for business owner to be found within Google maps. This allows you to update business information, get on the map, manage your reviews, connect with customers and have easy access to other products Google has to offer.

While this is great for SMB’s, my concern is that business owners may think that simply completing the steps in Google My Business, that they will instantly be found on the search engine. While they will for vanity searches, non branded keyword terms may be another story. With local search engine optimization you need to have a correctly optimized Plus listing as well as a correctly optimized website. Both go hand in hand with one another. In smaller cities with little competition you certainly could be found just by completing your business listings, in larger more competitive markets, we definitely recommend consulting a professional SEO company to guide you on best practices.
All in all, I like what Google has offered with Google My Business. This has streamlined the process and caused less confusion for local SEO companies and business owners. One central location for access to products available to local business owners.
