THINK BLACK FRIDAY & CYBER MONDAY ARE ONLY FOR RETAIL? THINK AGAIN…
Get your brand seen and heard this holiday shopping season
Retailers plan for Black Friday and Cyber Monday months in advance. As a consumer you may think about what products you’ll be purchasing, but have you ever thought about how you can take advantage of this opportunity to build your Brand Awareness? Think about what people are doing from Wednesday to Monday over the Thanksgiving holiday? They’re reading paper, driving around, shopping online, getting together, etc. There are very effective ways you can put your brand in front of people even if you’re not a retail business.
Here are ways to market your business during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend:
1. SOCIAL MEDIA
Social Media usage spikes during the holidays, especially during the shopping season. With a long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, people are shopping, traveling and connecting with one another. These moments are being shared through social media. Take advantage of this by developing a social media marketing campaign that is short, to the point and builds as much awareness as possible. Extend your reach and demographic targeting slightly to generate as more engagement. If you’re retail, provide a deal they can’t refuse. If you’re not retail, focus on Branding, once you have them engaged you can re-market back to them the following week with an offer after the holiday.
The one day when everyone who doesn’t subscribe to the paper is out grabbing one as fast as they possibly can to get the Black Friday ads. Take advantage of this by placing a print ad in the paper or one of their other print offers to reach the masses, if this is the one day a year they get the paper, chances are they will look through it. Get creative with your ad, use color and build your brand awareness with simple engaging messaging.
According to AAA, roughly 90% of people going more than 50 miles will drive. Thanksgiving is the business holiday travel day of the year, take advantage of the increase in radio listeners by developing a campaign for this weekend. It’s a great opportunity to reach your core demographic. Chose a station that reaches your core demographic and use short messages to brand yourself.
4. ONLINE DISPLAY
Online retail sales jumped 28% from 2017 to 2018, you can expect this number to grow in 2019. Retailers have adapted over the years to push “online only” deals and Cyber Monday. With this surge in online sales comes increased online usage during the holiday weekend. Take advantage of this by developing an online display (banner ads) campaign to increase consumer engagement. You can set up a “Display” campaign within Google Ads or Bing Ads that will put your ads on thousands of websites. You have quite a bit of control over where these ads are placed by selecting radius targeting of where you want ads to be shown, what type of websites you want ads to be seen on and who should see your ad based on your audience targeting.
You also have the option of geo-fencing your ads. For example, if you’re a local business within walking distance of a mall you can have your ads show up for everyone in and around the mall for a given period of time.
With increase shopping engagement, travel and socializing during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, it’s a prime time to do some brand building. Be strategic in your message and where you put it to take full advantage of the busy weekend.
